About Lisa

Hi there, and welcome — I’m really glad you’re here.

I’m Lisa Paul — Counsellor, Psychotherapist, Credentialed Mental Health Nurse, and Midwife. I work with women who are navigating difficult or overwhelming times, including anxiety, low mood, grief, trauma, and life transitions.

While I have a strong focus on Perinatal Mental Health, supporting women during pregnancy, birth, and early parenting, I also work with women who have experienced trauma, abuse, or victimisation, including those referred through Victim Services. My goal is to provide a safe, compassionate, and non-judgmental space where you can process your experiences, rebuild confidence, and find ways to feel more like yourself again.

My approach is gentle, flexible, and tailored to you. There’s no set formula — we work together at your pace, focusing on what matters most to you and supporting your emotional wellbeing every step of the way.

Above all, I believe therapy is collaborative. You’ll be met with understanding, respect, and compassion, and together we’ll explore ways to build resilience, self-compassion, and lasting wellbeing.

Experience

How I Came Into This Work

My journey into this work began in nursing. After completing my qualification, I worked in general medical nursing before moving into Neonatal Intensive Care.
A year later, I trained as a Midwife, working across antenatal, birth, postnatal, and special care nursery settings. Over 25 years, I became a senior clinician in this incredible field.

But as the years went on, I began to notice something missing. While we cared deeply for people’s physical needs, their emotional wellbeing often went unseen — yet it was always there, just beneath the surface.

That insight became deeply personal when I became a mother myself. During pregnancy and the postnatal period, I experienced anxiety and depression — something I hadn’t fully expected, even with all my clinical experience. I suddenly found myself in the same space I had witnessed so many others in: overwhelmed, unsure, and alone. And like many women, I discovered how hard it can be to find emotional support that truly meets you where you are.

That experience changed the course of my career. It led me back to university to study Counselling, and eventually into the mental health field, where I worked as a Senior Mental Health Clinician at the Raphael Service (St John of God) before starting my own private practice.

For the past nine years, my work has focused on perinatal and reproductive mental health, as well as trauma recovery and emotional wellbeing. More recently, my practice has expanded to include a broader range of counselling services — through Victim Services NSW, supporting women through stress, anxiety, grief, loss, and trauma and life adjustments. This evolution feels like a natural extension of my path, allowing me to bring the same depth of care and understanding to people at all stages of life.

At the heart of my work is a belief in individualised, collaborative care. Whether you’re seeking short-term support or space for deeper exploration, we’ll shape therapy together in a way that feels safe and right for you.

And most importantly: I get it.
I know how heavy life can feel, how isolating or confusing certain seasons can be. My intention is to offer a space where you’ll be met with compassion, not judgment — a space where you can breathe, be heard, and begin to reconnect with yourself.
